Beaver Mountain Fourth Grade Field Trip

Avery and I spent the day on the hills of Beaver Mountain. We had so much fun. I have only been skiing once before and it was when Ammon and I were first married. All I remember was that I wasn't catching on very quickly and I spent a lot of time lying on the ground trying to figure out how to get up and stay up. I had planned on going on this field trip, but not skiing. I didn't want to relive the last time. Well, since I work at the school, they offered to pay for me to ski. I took it as a sign that I should treat it as if I was one of the fourth graders going up to learn and experience it for the first time all over again. I Skied. I did pretty good on the open runs, but when I got close to an edge of any sort, I would panic and sit down. I didn't have enough confidence in myself to brave the steeper slopes and cruise on down next to the trees and drop offs. Avery , however surprised me. He ventured out on his own, taking the lifts on his own and speeding down Little Beaver without a problem. I was so proud of him. I thought surely that we would be in the Lodge some of the time moping because of frustration. Not the case.... He has a knack for it and loved every minute of it despite his few falls. I decided to spend some more time on my own on the practice hills perfecting my "pizza" ( stopping). It was fun. The guys working the tow rope and escalator got to know me quite well as I would keep on skiing up and down those hills.

Funny Story: As I stood watching Avery speed down the hill and come close to the bottom by the lift. I was encouraging him and giving him pointers. I yelled at him to "Taco". "TACO"? I quickly caught myself and said, "I mean, PIZZA". They had just taught us the term "Pizza" to help us stop. I laughed so hard that I was yelling "Taco". I knew what I meant to say. I had just been in the Lodge and saw others eating tacos in there, so I think it was on my mind. I am glad though that nobody heard me. I'm a bit dizzy I guess.

The weather was perfect and the company was perfect. I don't care that I still need a lot of work. Seeing Avery's smile made me so glad that I gave it a shot. It was a memory making day with my boy that I love so much.

Avery told me that he was glad I was there. That makes it even funner.

Getting ready to go home, I got the biggest hug! So worth it!!!!

Oh, the memories you and Avery will
have. He will always think of the
time his Mom went skiing with him
and he will want to do things with
his children You are treaching him
well and spending time with your
children. Great Mom. Thanks for
giving me some time on my birthday.
I think Dad is starting to have a
turn for the better, but he still
needs to take it easy and rest as
much as he can so he can go back to
the Temple.

Thanks for the help

Love Mom
