Stump Hollow

For Family Home Evening, we went to "the boys" favorite riding spot in Cache Valley, Stump Hollow. It is right across the way from the Beaver Mountain turn off. I have been wanting to join Ammon on some of his rides, but it never turns out to work very well. He thought to take us all up there with a KFC picnic and let the kids ride a little and he, Addison and I could go up further on the trail and hit some of the jumps. Well, It worked out to some extent. Poor Avery hadn't been feeling good early, and it was shown evident as he threw up in a 44 ounce Mtn. Dew cup in the van on the way up there. He was pale and weak. We ventured out anyway, only to have Ada not enjoy the ride through the weeds. I carried her bike along with pushing mine up to where we were set up to eat. We ate as Avery laid on our backpack feeling sick. He threw up one more time a bit later and then seemed to have the energy to do a little running and biking. Ammon and Addison biked up the trails as I stayed with the munchkins. I did follow them some of the way to take some photos. Addison tried out his new clips and shoes for the first time. He did pretty good. It takes some small skill to always get the clips in and out. We managed to have a good time and make a good memory. We rode back down to the van. Ada even did it this time. As we were loading our bikes on the rack, Addison took a spill in the parking lot. He hurt his arm and knee. I think he learned that you can't go super slow while still clipped in. He was stuck in his clips lying on the gravel. Not the best end to an already questionable event. Next time, it's just me and Ammon.

I'm glad you do things together as a family. That is so important even though it might be hard to match activities when you have a couple of pro mountain bikers in the group and a second and third grader on the other end of the spectrum. Alison's kind of like me. As long as he can go along and take pictures its OK. Glad you got home alright. Love you all.

The barfing and scars from falls may just make it even more memorable! Tell Addison that I did the same thing the first time I wore my clips/shoes for road cycling. And in my stupid "Ah, I'm just going around the block" mentality, I wasn't wearing a helmet. Hitting your head at 2 miles per hour on asphalt is unpleasant--I don't want to know what it's like any faster.

Wow - what a trip! It's amazing how every family outing can turn into quite an adventure and challenge, isn't it? No one would have ever known about the challenges, if you hadn't told us - your pictures are great! Looks like you had fun, regardless. :)
