Hogle Zoo and Liberty Park Day

We met up with Miriam and her kids, Naomi and her kids and Christy with her kids for a day in SLC. The plan was to meet at the Zoo at 10:00. I was on schedule and we were doing good time on the interstate until we got to Riverdale Road and had to be diverted due to an attempt to suicide on a bridge. Everything there turned out for the best, but he sure did cause some traffic headaches. I ended up on 84 and had to find my way back to 89 and then to 1-15 again. I hate driving in unfamiliar territory. We ended up being 45 minutes late. I am lucky to even have shown up at all. The day before, Avery was fevering with a bad throat and migraines. I kept him drugged up thinking that there was a good chance that we couldn't even go. I woke him up the morning we were going and he was burning up and still complaining of a sore throat. I got him up, put him in the shower and tried to get him to eat. He seemed to be doing a bit better and he said he was okay to go.... so we went. Last minute thought as I drove out of our driveway was to grab a bucket out of the toy box. It was a good thing because about 1/2 hour into the trip as Avery as watching a DVD, he started throwing up. He didn't really eat anything, so it was mostly water. I was laughing so hard because he had the bucket right in front of him and the DVD player on his lap behind it. He would hurl and then start watching the movie like nothing happened and then do it again about three times. Addison couldn't believe that I was laughing, but really who throws up and then the next second acted fine and was enthralled with a movie. I did worry about him. But, once we were to the Zoo, he was off and running like nothing was wrong. We played all day and he crashed in the car on the way home with a fever again. He went right to bed with chills, fevering and headaches. Thank goodness for drugs, a cold towel and prayers, because he woke up fine and dandy.... happy to see his dad home from his trip to Alaska.
I hadn't been to the zoo since Addison was little. It was fun. It was smaller than I remember, but it beats Willow Park. The water at Liberty Park was the funnest part for the kids. They loved it there and we could have spent the whole day there and they would have been good with that. All in all, we had a fun day and are always glad for the chance to get together with family and friends.

The Prairie Dogs of all things were the kids favorite at the Zoo. They thought that they were the cutest things. They were able to stick their heads up in these raised holes and get up close to them. They are rather cute.

Looks like fun! I really like the bird show at the zoo -- haven't seen it in years but they always amaze me.

Gavin has had similar symptoms as Avery did - yuck. It might be a case of "missing your dad" :)

What great fun with the family. They will have some great memories. Keep smiling. I always worry about the traffic when my family is on the road. Best I didn't know of your adventure until after the fact, I guess.

Love you all and always,

Grandpa Bart
